About the Role: We are looking for a reliable and dedicated Caretaker to join our small and friendly primary school in South Sheffield. This is a split-shift role, responsible for opening and closing the school, general maintenance, and ensuring that the school provides a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for staff and pupils.

As the caretaker, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the school, from unlocking the building in the morning to carrying out minor repairs and maintenance throughout the day, to ensuring that the school is securely locked at night.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Open and close the school at the designated times, ensuring the building is safe and secure.
  • Undertake general maintenance, including minor repairs, basic plumbing, painting, and ensuring the overall upkeep of the school's premises.
  • Monitor heating, lighting, and alarm systems to ensure the school operates smoothly.
  • Conduct regular health and safety checks and ensure all areas of the school are clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
  • Liaise with contractors and external service providers for larger maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain grounds, ensuring outdoor spaces are tidy and safe for pupils.
  • Ensure a safe environment by supporting staff in implementing safety procedures in line with school policies.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a caretaker, building, or facilities manager is essential.
  • Strong practical skills in maintenance and repairs.
  • Reliable, organised, and able to work independently.
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and respond to urgent maintenance issues when needed.
  • Enhanced DBS check is required (support will be provided for this process).
