Managing Director

After successfully growing audiences by more than 45% since 2022, introducing new year - round programmes and securing multi-year funding from BFI and Sheffield City Council, Sheffield DocFest is seeking an experienced senior leader to fulfil the role of Managing Director.

After three full in-person editions between 2022 - 2024, the festival has grown audiences by over 45%, exceeding historic (pre-pandemic) general audience numbers within a consolidated festival footprint and more tightly curated film selection. The festival continues to present an innovative, broad ranging and diverse programme of films, non-fiction audio and hybrid immersive projects that is diverse and globally representative. In addition, the festival is currently delivering flagship year-round programmes in partnership with Bertha Foundation and the BFI Filmmaking Fund, showcasing and nurturing under-seen unique creative voices in non-fiction film and TV.

The festival has established itself as the home of documentary in the UK and a leading event and marketplace on the international stage. The organisation, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) since 2019, is developing strong local, national and international partnerships to present a world-class programme to audiences ranging from Sheffield communities to globally acclaimed makers and producers.

With the Creative Director, the Chair, and Chair Designate of the Board of Trustees, the Managing Director will set strategic objectives for the short and medium term future, ensuring new initiatives are planned and resourced effectively, and lay the groundwork for the charity to deliver on and extend its mission.
