Do you want an interesting and varied career? Do you want to be a custodian of history?

Thomas Flinn & Co Ltd is a small, family owned business which is 101 years old. We manufacture traditional saws and hand tools in Sheffield, UK. Our oldest brand dates back to 1776. It is our high quality products that have allowed our lengthy tradition to continue and we have a very respected reputation for the products we produce here in our factory.

We are looking for a new traditional saw maker to join our team. This is a very unique role in a small Sheffield manufacturing setting.

We are the last remaining saw manufacturer left in Europe and we specialise in making traditional, 18th century style saws for woodworking such as Dovetail Saws, Tenon Saws, Handsaws and large crosscut saws for logging. We are a small, family owned business so its really important to be able to work well in a small environment and be independent in your approach to tasks. You will be personable and able to communicate with colleagues but also with visitors/clients whom visit the factory or collect goods. This is the ideal role for someone who has had hands on engineering/factory experience.

We are looking for someone to assist our current team in making our saws and parts for some of the other tools we produce. This is a busy and varied role but is essentially a job learning a life long skill. We are not looking for someone who wants a long term, steady role.

Ideal skills are as follows:

A basic engineering background use of millers, CNC machines, measuring equipment, press tools.

A keen eye for detail especially when producing premium quality tools.

Training on a waterjet cutter (or similar such as plasma/laser) would be ideal also but not essential as training can be provided.

Good time keeping.

Holiday allowance: 28 days annually including bank holidays.

Pay IMPORTANT! This is dependent on level of experience and skills. We really need to judge this based on skills/experience as there will be no "saw makers" already trained ready to go.

Hours 38.75 per week (8am-4.30pm Mon Thurs, Fri 8am-3pm)

Job Type: Full-time

Additional pay:

  • Yearly bonus

Benefits:

  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
