Empowering Learning are a market leading education recruitment company. We are working in partnership with a large Academy in Sheffield who are looking to appoint a Head of English on a full time basis starting on a temporary supply engagement, with a view to going permanent from January 2025.

This is a full-time vacancy Monday to Friday, starting as soon as possible. The school are looking to recruit an experienced, strong leader to head the department, implement change and process, and most importantly, support your team of 6 staff on a non teaching timetable.

The school is currently undergoing a period of growth and are looking for tenacious individuals to support this journey. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in departmental management, and will need a keen eye for behaviour management, and adept at resolving challenging behaviours.

The job* The school is looking for someone who is a strong leader, with fantastic organisational skills, an ability to foster positive relationships.* In addition, you will provide expertise in coaching your staff on delivering exceptional, engaging, and ambitious lessons which will provide opportunities for colleagues to learn and grow their practice.* To provide supportive leadership, regularly checking in with staff and supporting any issues that may arise.* To support the school raising standards of teaching and learning across the department and in monitoring progress towards agreed aims.* To provide specialist subject expertise to assist departmental staff, as appropriate.* To support and hold to account other staff in the school through teaching and learning programmes.* To support the school in the implementation of agreed whole school policies and initiatives.* To plan and facilitate professional learning workshops as requested.

The successful candidate will* Hold a teaching qualification.* Hold a degree or equivalent.* Have leadership experience as a department head or deputy department head.* Have outstanding teaching practice.* Have excellent behaviour management.* Have experience of lesson observations and giving robust feedback.* Have experience of improvement planning.* Have experience of implementing a range of strategies to raise student achievement, with evidence of success.* Contribution to impact on the quality of learning and teaching and curriculum.* A proven track record of excellent results at KS3/4.* Have experience of high-quality pupil tracking and feedback practices.
