Join KO2's Client as an Embedded Software Engineer - Powering Change across Africa.

Are you passionate about making a real impact with your engineering skills? KO2's client, a pioneering tech-for-good company based in Sheffield, is looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join their mission-driven team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology that's transforming lives across Africa.

About KO2's Client: Founded 11 years ago in Yorkshire, KO2's client has grown steadily, now boasting a team of 800 staff across Nigeria, DRC, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, with 20 dedicated professionals based in Yorkshire. The company specializes in providing battery swap services in regions with no access to the electrical grid. Their innovative business model involves setting up solar-powered hubs in local communities, renting space in shops, pharmacies, and unused buildings, and employing local agents to manage battery rentals. This hands-on approach is vital in areas where customers often lack bank accounts or ID, ensuring efficient service and community investment.

The Role: As an Embedded Software Engineer, you'll be instrumental in scaling up the technology that powers these hubs. Your primary focus will be on the STM32 embedded C firmware that controls the battery packs and charging units, which are essential for the day-to-day operations in these communities. You'll also work on firmware that enables communication between the batteries and Android devices, and potentially explore the use of ESP32 for Bluetooth capabilities.

Your work will be at the heart of a company that's not just about profit, but about delivering reliable, flexible energy solutions to those who need them most. KO2's client is committed to sustainable growth, turning down investors who don't share their mission to distribute energy in Africa.

What KO2's client are Looking For:

  • An Embedded Software Engineer with 3 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in STM32 embedded C is essential.
  • Experience with embedded Linux, particularly on hubs, is a plus.
  • A leader at heart, whether you've led a team before or are eager to step into a leadership role.
  • Someone who's hands-on and ready to be deeply involved in the technical aspects of the role (80% hands-on work).
  • A proactive problem-solver who isn't afraid to challenge the status quo and ensure the company stays true to its mission.

Why Join?

  • Competitive salary of 50,000, with additional benefits including a salary sacrifice EV scheme and cycle-to-work program.
  • Onsite role in Sheffield with excellent transport links, including relocation packages if needed.
  • Opportunity to work on technology that has a profound impact on underserved communities.
  • Potential to visit Sub-Saharan Africa and witness firsthand the difference your work is making.
  • A chance to join a growing team at a pivotal moment, setting you up for a strong career trajectory.

KO2's client believes in profitable, sustainable business practices, ensuring that every decision aligns with their goal of providing accessible energy in Africa. If you're an Embedded Software Engineer who wants to be part of something truly meaningful, this is the role for you.
