Senior Investment Executive

The Role

Barber McLelland is working in partnership with a leading Investment company, that specialises in providing funding to regional SME businesses to support their growth and expansion plans.

The business has a newly created position for a Senior investment executive based within their Sheffield office.

Duties and Responsibilities

The role of Senior Investment Executive is responsible for providing management and leadership for the Investments Team in South Yorkshire. The position will also oversee the sourcing, appraising and making loan and mezzanine investments into SMEs of up to £2m.

Supporting the Senior Fund Director, responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the operation of the Fund as a senior member of the Investment Team, leading the Investment Team on larger and more complex investments
  • Manage and motivate employees within the team and provide investment training where appropriate
  • Provide leadership and dynamic team development to ensure team members reach their potential
  • Evaluate and assess potential new investment propositions, providing guidance and advice in areas of viability and eligibility to Investment Executives where appropriate
  • Oversee due diligence, terms and conditions and legal documentation for placing investments
  • Assess applications for funding and prepare credit reports recommending investment to Fund Manager, Fund Director or Investment Committee
  • Understand and assess underlying cashflow assumptions and comment on the risks associated with these and suggest and conduct appropriate sensitivity analysis
  • Take responsibility for the creation of covenants and the setting of limits
  • Contribute to marketing/promoting of the fund / organisation and develop and nurture relationships with key publications in the region

Skills and Qualities

The successful candidate will already have a proven track record working within an investment arena, with previous venture capital, leveraged finance, corporate finance or accountancy experience.

Additional Essential Skills -

  • Minimum 5 years direct investment experience
  • Accountancy or banking qualifications
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills, demonstrable experience in building and inspiring new teams to achieve goals
  • Understanding of debt and mezzanine investments into SMEs
  • An established network of business introducers in the South Yorkshire region.
  • An awareness of business issues and the SME market in the South Yorkshire region
  • Credit appraisal experience and understanding of investment risk appraisal and investment processes and procedures
  • Ability to assess investment proposals and construct balanced investment proposals
