I am currently recruiting for an Appeals Secretary / Paralegal to work at my client a leading public sector organisation based in Sheffield City centre. This role will be Hybrid between the office in the City Centre and working from home. Some weeks the split will be different based on business needs. These roles will start late March/Early April.

Your role will be to support the school admission appeals process and the independent appeal panels in this public facing role.

Duties will include:

  • Respond to queries from parents in advance of the hearing;
  • Arrange and schedule appeal hearings and preparing and overseeing of appeal papers;
  • Give independent advice to the panel on procedure;
  • Keep accurate record of the appeal hearings;
  • Provide the parties with written notification of the panel’s decision and to respond to queries from parents, schools, Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman and the Education Funding and Skills Agency after the hearing with support from the Lawyers and Professional Officers in the Team

The clerks also receive ongoing advice and support by the Lawyers and Professional Officers.

As the successful candidate you will:

  • Need to be very organised
  • Have great attention to detail
  • Be an excellent note-taker and be able to translate notes into official formal letters. Template letters will be provided.
  • Need to be assertive, confident in giving advice and be able to stand your ground under pressure.
  • Have the energy and ability to learn quickly and work under pressure. Training and ongoing support will be provided.
