We have a fantastic opportunity for a Handyperson at Sheffield City Council, this is a full-time Temporary role for the next 9 months with the possibility of extension

What is the role?

Sheffield City Council are looking for a Handyperson, to carry out maintenance tasks to the interior and exterior for Care Leaver flats and may also be required to work in other supported accommodation in times of emergency. With particular attention to maintaining the decoration and fabric of the homes. You will work City wide with Care Experienced young people from the point that they are successful in securing their own tenancy.

What are your responsibilities?

  • We have a diverse mix of accommodation for Care Leavers across Sheffield city. We work closely with partners to increase the range of options and have recently developed 6 new trainer flats.
  • This a new service model and an exciting opportunity to deliver services to Care Leavers in a holistic way offering semi-Independent accommodation, to young people aged 16+ who have high support needs, including service users with complex needs.
  • As a Handy Person, you will have a range of responsibilities, skills, and experience to carry out routine repair and maintenance jobs. To carry out a range of minor repairs to building, furniture and equipment.
  • Working with housing ensuring flats are ready for young people who have been in care, supporting young people with household maintenance and decorating and providing a point of contact for young people for advice about household maintenance.
  • To undertake cleaning duties as required to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the homes.
  • Work within the Care Leavers service and to provide support in times of emergency
  • Maintain the material standards of the flats - domestic decorating, routine repairs and maintenance of fixtures and fittings.
  • To carry out routine general maintenance of grounds and garden areas in all weathers.
  • Carry out routine checks on lighting systems, fire system, health and safety checks.
  • Report repairs and maintenance to Sheffield City Council property management or appropriate contractors and to manage contractors whilst on site.
  • Maintain information logs, and repair logs where appropriate.
  • Attend monthly supervisions, performance reviews and staff meetings (as appropriate.)
  • Provide domestic and cleaning support when required.
  • To provide rapid responses to damage in the flats to ensure repairs are completed swiftly and standards in the homes maintained.
  •  Build positive relationships with young people

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have recent experience of working as a Handyperson, doing all general maintenance repairs, gardening and cleaning as and when required.
  • Must be physically fit and healthy, as you will be working inside and outside and may need to lift heavy items.
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff and managers.
  • Full UK Driving Licence, and access to a vehicle
  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the update service
  • 37 Hours a week, 8.45am - 17.15pm Monday to Thursday with a 16.45 pm finish on a Friday.
