Role Overview

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will manage cost controls, budgets, and the financial planning of our projects, working closely with the commercial team and senior management. You'll have the opportunity to lead on major projects, mentor junior team members, and contribute to the company's continued success by ensuring each development is delivered within budget and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cost Management: Oversee and manage project budgets from inception to completion, ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Procurement and Contract Negotiation: Lead the procurement of subcontractors and materials, negotiating contracts to achieve best value and manage risks.
  • Valuations and Payments: Conduct regular valuations and approve payments for subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring work meets quality and contractual requirements.
  • Reporting and Forecasting: Prepare and present financial reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections to stakeholders, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Risk and Issue Resolution: Identify and proactively manage potential risks to budget or schedule, resolving issues swiftly to keep projects on track.
  • Mentorship: Support and mentor junior surveyors, providing guidance and helping develop their skills in line with industry best practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Conduct post-project financial reviews to analyse costs and identify areas for efficiency improvements in future developments.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience: Experience in quantity surveying, ideally with a residential developer or within the housebuilding sector.
  • Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field; RICS or CIOB membership preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of cost planning, budget management, and construction contracts, with experience using cost management software (e.g., COINS, CostX).
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: High attention to detail with excellent analytical abilities, along with strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging stakeholders at all levels.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and develop junior team members and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence required for site visits.
