GSL Education are searching for dedicated and enthusiastic English Teachers to work in a forward-thinking school in Sheffield. This role is open to Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who have completed their training placements and are ready to begin their teaching journey.

As an English teacher, you will inspire students to explore literature and develop their writing skills. You will create engaging lessons to key stages 3 and 4 that foster a love for reading and effective communication.

Responsibilities of the English Teacher:

  • Plan and Deliver Lessons: Develop engaging and curriculum-aligned lessons in language, literature, and communication skills.
  • Promote Language Proficiency: Teach grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, and speaking skills effectively.
  • Encourage Critical Thinking: Inspire students to analyse texts, think creatively, and express their ideas confidently.
  • Assess Student Progress: Evaluate and monitor student performance through assignments, tests, and feedback.
  • Foster a Love for Literature: Introduce students to diverse literary works, encouraging an appreciation for reading.
  • Support Individual Needs: Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate students with varying abilities and learning styles.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, organised, and respectful learning environment.
  • Enhance Communication Skills: Help students develop clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues: Work with fellow teachers to develop and refine the English curriculum.
  • Stay Updated: Pursue professional development opportunities to implement innovative teaching methods.

Requirements of the English Teacher:

  • Educational Qualifications: QTS is a must. A relevant degree in English, Education, or a related field (essential). Open to Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who have completed their training placements and are ready to begin their teaching journey.
  • Teaching Skills: Strong ability to deliver engaging and effective lessons.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to meet the diverse needs of students with varying abilities.
  • Organisational Skills: Ability to plan and prepare lessons and manage classroom activities.
  • Passion for Teaching: A genuine enthusiasm for inspiring and educating young minds.
  • Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the school community.
  • Professional Development: Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • DBS: Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).

Mandatory information:

  • The successful candidate must hold PGCE in the relevant subject with Qualified Teaching Status (QTS), or equivalent certification.
  • Be able to provide a ten-year career history with relevant reference details covering the last two years, including your most recent place of academic employment.
