Sheffield City Council are looking for three Senior Housing Solutions Officers to join our dynamic Housing Advice and Options Service. This role is crucial for providing housing advice, assessing households in housing need, and delivering tailored support and housing options. A strong commitment to homeless prevention and a customer-first approach are essential.
Day-to-day of the role:- Provide high-standard Housing Solutions Services to prevent homelessness and manage housing needs effectively.
- Undertake assessments and carry out casework across various housing situations.
- Work within a statutory framework to progress cases in line with legal requirements.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to assess circumstances, investigate cases, and understand the holistic needs of households.
- Provide support and advice to a team of Housing Solutions Officers, including mentoring and guidance.
- Manage customer expectations effectively, balancing empathy and understanding with the practical limitations of available resources.
- Operate as part of the access team, managing the first point of contact for customers and ensuring efficient service delivery.

The main element of the role will be to provide a good quality customer focused front line Housing Solutions Service. By way of example this will involve work relating to but not limited to:
- Interview clients, undertake assessments within statutory and policy frameworks, provide ongoing support and maintain client contact.
- Carrying out home visits or visits to hospitals and other relevant sites.
- Collect information relating to applications from a variety of sources.
- Progress cases, from application to final outcome and evaluation.
- Provide information on all available housing, support and other related services.
- Provide positive outcomes for clients using a full range of options and empowering where possible.
- Assist clients to access specialist support services as required (for example, advocacy services, tenancy support, equipment and adaptations, city wide alarms).
- Interpret and support clients through the Council’s Lettings Policy, including assistance with the bidding process.
- Demonstrated ability to focus on customers with excellent prioritisation and organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Resilience and a strong work ethic, with a keenness to learn and adapt.
- Experience in supporting officers with complex cases and providing effective case management advice.
- Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
