Overview:

Sheffield Council is seeking a dedicated Social Worker to join our Leaving Care Service within the Young Refugee Team. This role is pivotal in supporting young refugees and asylum seekers transitioning out of care, helping them to navigate their new environment, access essential services, and integrate into the community. The successful candidate will have experience in working with refugees, asylum seekers, or vulnerable young people and possess a deep understanding of the challenges they face.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support and guidance to young refugees and asylum seekers leaving care, ensuring they have access to housing, education, health care, and employment opportunities.
  • Conduct assessments to determine the needs of young refugees and develop personalized transition plans.
  • Advocate for the rights of young refugees and asylum seekers, ensuring they receive the protections and services to which they are entitled.
  • Work closely with other service providers, including immigration services, health care professionals, and educational institutions, to coordinate and enhance care delivery.
  • Offer emotional and practical support to individuals, aiding them in overcoming barriers to successful integration.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive case files, ensuring all interventions and communications are documented in line with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to remain current on immigration and refugee policies, child protection laws, and best practices in social work.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience in working with refugees, asylum seekers, or in a leaving care setting.
  • Knowledge of the legal frameworks and services related to asylum, refugee status, and child welfare.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse clients and teams.
  • Empathy, resilience, and a committed approach to advocating for vulnerable populations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload.
