Arboricultural Surveyor

Sheffield base

£26 - 28k DOE

Our multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy client are currently seeking an Arboricultural Surveyor to join their growing team and to manage an increasing workload ranging from British Standard tree surveys and Visual Tree Assessment to tree risk assessments applying the QTRA methodology.

Working independently as part of the Landscape and Arboriculture Team, you will provide high-quality tree survey data to inform a range of tree survey reports for a number of projects and sectors including Land and Property Development, Infrastructure, Waste, Minerals, Energy and Utilities.

** In essence, this role could well suit someone a year out from Arb College but if you had more experience then great, speak to us. It is an excellent opportunity to make your own mark and develop quickly as a Surveyor or on to Arb Consultant if that is your preference.**

Depending on experience, your tasks will include;

  • Arboricultural Surveys to BS 5837:2012 of small and large-scale sites, including woodland, rural, commercial, brownfield and urban as well as small domestic sites, both locally and nationally.
  • Recording tree parameters comprehensively and efficiently and liaising with local authorities to identify legal protection of trees on development sites.
  • Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) both as stand-alone surveys and as part of BS 5837 surveys.
  • Tree risk assessments applying methodologies such as QTRA
  • Arboricultural Supervision of works near retained trees

Successful candidates should have:

  • A qualification to QCF Level 4 in arboriculture (or above)
  • LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection qualification
  • Excellent summer and winter tree identification skills, as well as identification of pests and diseases to assist in making tree management decisions.
  • An excellent working knowledge of British Standard 5837 (2012), in particular Chapter 4 Feasibility: surveys and preliminary constraints and confidence assigning BS retention categories
  • Working knowledge of tree risk assessments (purpose, methodology and outcomes), (ideally QTRA but training can be provided)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Organisational skills and ability to manage own workload.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel and stay away from home as necessary
  • Full clean UK driving licence.
  • Experience in the use of digital survey equipment and survey applications, ideally OTISS in conjunction with Android Tablet (although working knowledge of other apps will be helpful)

In addition to the above, the following would be desirable, but not necessary

  • Membership of the Arboricultural Association (or other related professional body)
  • Qualification of use of the Quantified Tree Risk Assessments (QTRA) methodology
  • Good understanding of tree protection methodologies to BS 5837 to assist with projects requiring arboricultural supervision.
  • Knowledge and application of QArb as arboricultural add-on to BricsCAD/AutoCAD.
  • A dual qualification covering other environmental disciplines, including Landscape Architecture or Ecology
  • Consider future progression to Arboricultural Consultancy level (surveys as well as office-based report and drawing delivery)

You will receive training for your specific job and as required as your employment progresses.

You must have full rights to work in the UK without the need for sponsorship.
