Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Learning

    • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons that inspire, challenge, and meet the needs of all students.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued and motivated to succeed.
    • Use a variety of teaching strategies to ensure that lessons are engaging, interactive, and differentiated to suit varying abilities.
    • Ensure effective assessment for learning practices, providing students with constructive feedback to guide their progress.
    • Prepare students for success in GCSE English Language and Literature examinations.
  • Curriculum Development

    • Contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of the English curriculum, ensuring it is current, creative, and aligned with national standards.
    • Incorporate a wide range of texts, including classic literature, contemporary fiction, poetry, and non-fiction, to develop students' critical thinking and analytical skills.
    • Encourage a love of reading and writing, and support students' development in literacy across the curriculum.
  • Student Achievement and Progress

    • Monitor and track student progress, identifying areas where additional support or challenge is needed.
    • Use data to inform planning and intervention, ensuring all students are making progress toward their targets.
    • Provide tailored support to students, including those with special educational needs, to ensure every student can achieve their best.

    • Engage with parents, carers, and colleagues to ensure the best outcomes for students.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in English or a related field.
  • A strong understanding of the National Curriculum for English, with experience teaching at KS3 and KS4.
  • A passion for teaching English and the ability to inspire a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking in students.
  • Excellent classroom management skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students of all abilities.
