We are seeking an experienced Ocean Freight Operator to join our dynamic and friendly team based in Birmingham offices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ocean freight operations, with a focus on imports and exports. This position offers the opportunity for career progression, with successful candidates fast-tracked to a supervisor role.
Ocean Freight Operator Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full life cycle of the ocean freight process from origin to final delivery
- Coordinate & arrange shipments (FCL & LCL) for import and export
- Liaise with shipping lines and negotiate rates
- Ensure compliance with customs regulations for imports and exports via CDS
- Communicate with carriers, suppliers, and customers to ensure timely and cost-effective transportation
- Handle documentation, including bill of lading, shipping instructions, and customs clearance paperwork
- Monitor and track shipments to ensure on-time delivery and resolve any issues that arise
- Collaborate with internal teams to optimize processes and improve efficiency
Experience required:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in ocean freight operations
- Strong understanding of the import and export process
- Proven ability to handle the full life cycle of freight operations from start to finish
- Experience with customs clearances for imports and exports via CDS
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
