Are you a Production Manager ready to manage your own Rail maintenance site, working for one of the biggest freight operating companies in the UK?

Opportunity 

Requirement for a confident Production Manager to take responsibility for a locomotive fleet maintenance depot (consisting of two workshops of engineers). This is an ideal opportunity for a Production Manager, who has some man management experience, to make the leap into managing their own engineering site.

Managing a relatively small (fleet of 30 trains) but busy, depot; you will be highly autonomous. Gaining invaluable experience within the Rolling Stock sector, you will make yourself invaluable to this £million company, and gain exposure to all the challenges and responsibilities of managing a Depot, including resource deployment, recruitment, HR and finance.  

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring company policy and standards that apply to the inspection, maintenance, and repair of equipment or vehicles under the responsibility of the rolling stock maintenance function are carried out with a high level of management control.
  • The post holder is required to ensure that inspections and maintenance work are carried out on a planned basis for all Rolling Stock equipment and repairs are carried out with minimum disruption to company business. The post holder should ensure that the needs of the maintenance business are communicated and acted upon by operational staff to ensure maintenance is adequately achieved.
  • Responsible for ensuring group and company safety procedures, controls, audits and associated documents are correctly enforced and maintained. Support audit teams and personally ensure that the daily management of the required standards to ensure workmanship, physical condition of equipment, and safety / environmental procedures meet both company and legislation requirements
  • Provide dynamic man management and leadership skills to all staff and to develop the workforce to be capable of working confidently under their own initiative and be capable of reporting accurate activity. Provide effective briefing procedures to all staff.  Identify training needs and ensure all staff are competent and certificated to carry out the work required of them.
  • Lead in driving service reliance delivery and improve productivity in asset and equipment utilisation. Ensure product audits are carried out and, if possible, involve the staff who undertook the work with a view to improving the quality of work.
  • Ensure that liaison exists with all key suppliers and that the company’s best interests are protected. Ensure only approved Contractors are used when purchasing services or materials.
  • Ensure investigation into all reported incidents mishaps and near misses identifying trends and ensuring that all appropriate action is taken to remove risk of recurrence.
  • Maintain discipline and foster good industrial relations, ensuring that correct, fair and appropriate action is taken.
  • Ensure fleet performance is reviewed and actions are taken to implement change.
  • Development and provision of resources required to support new business or changes to business including preparation of business case in liaison with appropriate staff.
  • The Depot Manager will ensure that all Environmental Policies and Procedures are always communicated to all depot members of staff and adhered to. The depot manager will be responsible for investigating all environmental events, including third party complaints, and ensure mitigation measures are actioned to closure appropriately. The depot manager will put relevant candidates forward for appropriate Environmental training programmes.
  • Carry out other duties as directed by the Fleet Manager.

Location: Shepton Mallett (fully on site M-F, with a requirement to work one weekend every 7/8 weeks).

  • People management experience.
  • Depot/workshop experience.
  • Production experience.
  • Rolling stock experience (desirable).
