Live-In House Manager

The Burford Recruitment Company are working on behalf of a private client who is seeking a highly skilled, experienced and proactive House Manager to oversee the maintenance and operation of a magnificent historical property in the heart of the Cotswolds. The Principal visits around four times a year, so it is essential that the estate is maintained to the highest standards at all times. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for historical properties, countryside luxury living, and a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day management of this prestigious estate, ensuring it is always presented to the highest possible standard.
- Lead, train, and manage a small team of household staff, including housekeeping, maintenance, and groundskeeping.
- Ensure the house is maintained and prepared for the principal’s visits, with a focus on comfort, cleanliness, and style.
- Manage scheduling and logistics of staff, maintenance, and any events or occasions hosted at the property.
- Supervise housekeeping, ensuring all areas of the property, both indoor and outdoor, are immaculately maintained.
- Liaise with external contractors, ensuring any repairs or renovations are handled promptly and to the highest standard.
- Organise, coordinate, and oversee any required catering, entertaining, or special events as per the principal’s preferences.
- Manage budgets and inventories, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness across the household’s needs.
- Maintain high levels of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism at all times.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as a House Manager or in a similar role within a private household or luxury estate is essential
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a small team.
- An understanding and appreciation of the complexities of managing a historic property.
- Exceptional attention to detail and standards, with a strong sense of pride in ensuring everything is maintained impeccably.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Flexibility to manage varying workloads, with the ability to plan ahead for the principal’s visits and any events.
- Discretion and professionalism are paramount in handling private matters and the principal's requirements.
- A full, clean driving license and a willingness to take on other ad-hoc tasks as required.
