Job Specification: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: Southport (Office-based with site attendance)
Salary: £55,000 - £75,000 (inclusive of car allowance)

Company Overview:
A well-established main contractor with a strong track record in delivering high-quality projects across various sectors. Seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team based in Southport, with experience in the public sector, including healthcare, education, and government projects (including Blue Lights and MOJ contracts). This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of projects, including office refurbishments, new builds, and light civil works, with a focus on fire door & protection works.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management & Budget Control:
Track changes in design and construction, ensuring budgets are updated accordingly.
Prepare and manage cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and material requirements.
Assist with tenders and negotiations, working closely with the procurement team.
Set budgets for payments, inventory needs, and material costs.
Site & Office Liaison:
Split time between the office and site visits, attending project sites to monitor progress, assess risks, and resolve issues.
Measure progress on-site, ensuring the submission of valuations, payment notices, and final accounts in a timely manner.
Ensure retention release and monitor receipt of payments for designated schemes.
Subcontractor Liaison & Negotiation:
Liaise and negotiate with subcontractors, ensuring cost-effective solutions are achieved while maintaining quality standards.
Team Development & Mentoring:
Mentor and provide guidance to Assistant Quantity Surveyors, supporting their professional development and growth.
Cost Analysis & Reporting:
Conduct cost analysis for maintenance, additional building needs, and changes to the project scope.
Ensure financial control and accurate reporting throughout the life cycle of projects.
Key Requirements:
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a bias towards construction and a strong background in public sector projects (healthcare, education, government, MOJ, Blue Lights).
Ideally, experience in Fire Door & Protection works.
Broad experience in construction, particularly office refurbishments, new builds, and light civil works.
Local to Southport, with the ability to split time effectively between the office and site visits.
Strong negotiation and communication skills, particularly with subcontractors and project stakeholders.
Experience in managing the financial aspects of a project, including cost estimation, budgeting, valuations, and final accounts.
Ability to mentor junior team members and manage a team effectively.
Desirable Skills:
Experience with fire protection systems, including fire doors and related works.
Strong knowledge of public sector procurement processes and tendering.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
