Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant

Location: Shoreham-by-Sea, West SussexWorking Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team in Shoreham. As an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a student on the autism spectrum, providing personalised support to help them engage with the curriculum and thrive in an inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 support to a student with autism, assisting them in accessing the curriculum and developing independence.
  • Work alongside the class teacher to create and implement individualised learning plans tailored to the student's needs.
  • Offer emotional and behavioral support, helping the student to build confidence, manage challenges, and interact positively with peers.
  • Foster an inclusive and positive learning environment, promoting understanding and acceptance of neurodiversity.
  • Monitor and report on the student's progress, providing feedback to the SENCo and other staff members to ensure the best possible outcomes.
  • Support the student in developing social, communication, and life skills.
About You:
  • Experience in supporting students with autism, either in a 1:1 or classroom setting, is highly desirable.
  • A patient, understanding, and adaptable approach to supporting children with autism.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
