Your new companyHays are working exclusively with a fast-paced business in Shrewsbury who are looking for a Part-time Purchase Ledger/ Sub-Contract Ledger Clerk to join their team in Shrewsbury to cover a maternity leave for a period of 9-12 Months. Your new roleYou will be working within a small and friendly accounts team and taking responsibility for processing the Purchase and Sub-Contract Ledgers.Duties will include: Being responsible for managing and maintaining the subcontract ledger, ensuring accurate processing of subcontractor invoices and payments. The role involves liaising with internal and external stakeholders, verifying compliance with contractual agreements, and supporting the finance team with day-to-day tasks.

  • Ledger Management: Maintain an accurate and up-to-date subcontract ledger system.
  • Invoice Processing: Verify, process, and post subcontractor invoices in a timely manner.
  • Payments: Prepare and process payments to subcontractors in accordance with agreed terms.
  • Reconciliation: Conduct monthly reconciliations of subcontractor accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Compliance: Ensure all subcontractor invoices align with contractual agreements and tax regulations, including VAT and CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) deductions.
  • Reporting: Produce regular reports on subcontractor expenditure and outstanding payments for review by the finance team.
  • Communication: Act as a point of contact for subcontractors, resolving queries and fostering positive working relationships.

What you'll need to succeedYou should have extensive Purchase Ledger experience and ideally, experience of Sub-Contract ledger within a construction company (ideal but not essential). You should have excellent attention to detail, be used to working to deadlines and be available to start a contract around May/ June (or possibly before if you require it).
