Their team of experienced environmental consultants offer a comprehensive range of services, including flood risk assessments, drainage design, and environmental assessments. They specialise in technical modelling, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), and flood risk mitigation measures.Your new roleThey are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Freelance Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant to join the team on a flexible basis. You will be responsible for providing expert advice and solutions on flood risk management and drainage strategies for a variety of projects across the UK. This role requires a deep understanding of flood risk assessment, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), and relevant UK regulations.Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and Flood Consequence Assessments (FCAs) for various development projects.
- Develop and implement Surface Water Drainage Strategies, including the design and integration of SuDS.
- Provide consultancy services on flood risk management, including mitigation measures and emergency planning.
- Liaise with clients, local planning authorities, the Environment Agency, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with national and local planning policies.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, including risk assessments, drainage strategies, and feasibility studies.
- Use industry-standard software such as MicroDrainage and AutoCAD to model and design drainage systems.
- Stay updated with the latest regulations, guidelines, and best practices in flood risk management and drainage design.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints.
- Provide expert advice and support to clients throughout the planning and development process.
What you'll need to succeed
- A degree in a related field.
- Professional membership with CIWEM, or a similar institution is desirable.
- Proven experience in flood risk assessment, drainage design, and SuDS implementation.
- Proficiency in using drainage design software (e.g., MicroDrainage) and CAD tools.
- Strong understanding of UK flood risk management policies, including the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and local planning guidance.
- Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience in preparing and delivering FRAs, FCAs, and drainage strategies.
- Knowledge of hydrological and hydraulic modelling techniques.
- Familiarity with GIS software and data analysis.
- Ability to liaise effectively with clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
- A proactive approach to staying informed about industry developments and emerging technologies.
