The Role:
As an M&E Buyer, you will be responsible for overseeing the procurement of materials, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring that all materials are delivered within budget and timescales to support ongoing projects. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with site teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to negotiate the best prices and terms
- Ensure materials are procured within budget and delivered on time
- Manage the supply chain and identify potential new suppliers
- Resolve disputes and account queries with suppliers
- Maintain and update procurement documentation, including call-off and procurement schedules
- Process orders using Sage, ensuring correct product codes and vendor allocation
- Obtain quotes for day-to-day and bespoke items or client-specific products
- Track and confirm order deliveries, advising on alternatives when necessary
- Support the Commercial & Estimating teams with material costs and supplier details
What We’re Looking For:
- Previous experience in M&E buying is essential
- At least 2+ years’ experience working for a mechanical or electrical supplier in an M&E contracting environment
- Strong commercial awareness and experience in procurement
- Good general education - A Levels, on-site installation experience, or experience in a buying/selling capacity (e.g., wholesaler)
- Confident with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a polite telephone manner
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Proactive and confident in using initiative
