Police Digital Service strives to be the go-to partner for technology developments and programmes across UK policing.
The National Management Centre (NMC) is part of Police Digital Service and provides visibility and control of information risks for policing. It supports the 24x7x365 nature of police operations, providing a threat detection and response capability for digital services before, during and after cyber-attacks, enabling stakeholders to understand and proactively manage risk across the technology estate at both the national and force level.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for the Detect activities within the NMC as well as any issues concerning quality and delivery of the service.
- Engagement with all aspects of the NMC to ensure efficient and robust service delivery.
- Responsible for the value and efficiency of the service and of the team working within it.
- Accountable for the evolution and development of the PM service with regards to continuously improve in respect of People, Processes and Technology.
- Accountable of all related documentation and processes within the PM area. e.g., playbooks/WINS etc
- Responsible for quality of the PM service, and will support and input to content evolution, content delivery and validation of content. Contribute to custom tooling design and delivery.
- To be seen as a leader in collaboratively working with other NMC services to ensure seamless integration with all other teams across the NMC, towards maximizing the outputs from the NMC.
- Engage with senior internal and external stakeholders to represent and deliver the performance and value of the Cyber Detect Team via written reports, and informal / formal presentations.
What you need to succeed in the role
Essential
- Experience working in a fast-paced operational security environment
- Experience in driving and motivating a team
- Experience working in a customer facing environment
- Experience working in a Security environment
- Experience in internal and external stakeholder management and engagement
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of various security methodologies and processes and can apply these to incident investigations
- Knowledge of commonly deployed Cyber Security tools and products
- Knowledge and hands on experience of IP networks and their key components
- Ability to apply processes to incidents and investigations
- A genuine enthusiasm and drive to work within Cyber Security, and drive improvement within the team
- Motivated and ambitious to work on your own initiative without needing direction
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task, prioritise, and manage time effectively
- Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanour
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
- Familiar with the use of SIEM (Security Incident and Event Management) technology, in terms of handling alerts, analysis of the data within the alert and rationale on whether escalation or closure is required. A proven capacity to mentor this ability to colleagues
- Ability to convey technical speak into plain English to contextualise the alert with recommendations if applicable
- Providing thought leadership to support the shaping of the Protective Monitoring Service, with a mind-set of moving up the value chain in terms of experience, knowledge, and skills
- Ability to create Protective Monitoring related reports for leadership team when required
Desirable
- Experience working within a Cyber Security or similar environment
- CompTIA Network+, Security+, CSA+ and/or CEH or equivalent
All applicants must be eligible for NPPV3 and SC clearances. Successful applicants will require NPPV3 clearance to have been approved before starting with PDS.

NMC employees have the opportunity to work in our modern office environment for in-person collaboration, however you will also get the opportunity to work from home 2 days a week.
Please note that in Q3 of 2025, the NMC will be relocating to offices in the Wigan area.
