This is a full time salary position. Salary/package is dependent on relevant skills/experience.
This role is based out of Skipton, hybrid working may be offered, but there would need to be a split of home and office working each week. So candidates will need to be commutable to the office.
JOB PURPOSE:
To design and develop water-based projects and products to a detailed level suitable for manufacturing and construction, specifically for Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation (EICA) systems.
Additionally, the role involves creating scopes and specifications for subcontractor packages to support project delivery and overseeing these packages through to completion on-site.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The role of the design engineer involves developing designs for water-based projects to a high level of detail for manufacture and construction. Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing and maintaining design standards for water and process-based plants, equipment, and associated components.
- Coordinating with equipment suppliers to determine technical requirements and create comprehensive data sheets for purchasing.
- Delivering design documents ready for construction and providing technical support from the office.
- Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, coordinating interfaces, and collaborating in a BIM environment to conduct clash detection both internally and with the client’s federated models.
- Recognizing the need for specialist support when necessary.
- Collaborating with the project delivery team to ensure that the project progresses according to the agreed timeline and deliverables.
You will be expected to adhere to the business’s QA system while continuously improving the company’s processes and products. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and specifying both bespoke and standard products/processes, with typical outputs including:
- Electrical calculations
- Data sheets
- Schedules
- Drawing development
- Scope and specification production
- Supplier specifications and review, liaising with procurement
- Reviewing supplier documents
- Supporting the Lead Engineer in internal design reviews
- Participating in client design reviews
- Assisting with HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Studies)
- Ensuring consistency and adherence to best practices across all projects
The ideal candidate will have:
- A background in electrical, instrumentation, or control engineering
- A degree, HND, or HNC is preferred
- Familiarity with 2D drafting (not essential)
- Knowledge of electrical proprietary software (desirable but not essential)
- Ability to perform hand calculations
- Experience with Document Management Systems (e.g., ProjectWise) is a plus, though not essential
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to discuss technical matters with customers
- A valid driving license
- A strong all-around knowledge of IT applications
