Job Advert: Head of Finance Operations

Location: Slough

This Primary Academy is a vibrant and dynamic school with a strong focus on the arts. We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Head of Finance Operations to join our team. This key role will oversee the financial management of the school, ensuring that all financial responsibilities to governing bodies such as the ESFA, Charities Commission, and Companies House are fully met.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement financial strategy to support the schools educational goals.
  • Manage payroll and administer the schools pension schemes.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and termly reports to governors.
  • Support audit processes (end-of-year audit and termly internal audits).
  • Line manage two finance officers.
  • Ensure smooth operations across the finance department, including accounts payable/receivable, banking, insurance, and legal contracts.
  • Liaise with the Executive Head and senior leadership on budget management and financial planning.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Experience working within an academy, or similar, within the past 5 years.
  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations in the education sector.
  • Excellent skills in Sage and MS Excel.
  • Proven ability to manage a high workload and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to report to governors and other senior stakeholders.
