SRG are working with a Global Biopharmaceutical company to help them find a Research Associate to join their busy team. We are looking for a confident and driven Research Scientist (or Associate) with a passion for innovation and a desire to make a meaningful impact in antibody production. Join our Small-Scale Antibody Production and Automation team within the Antibody Production Sciences (APS) group, part of the Antibody and Novel Therapeutics (ANT) department

In this role, you will contribute to the development of cutting-edge therapeutic and tool antibody reagents, supporting projects from early-stage discovery through to late-stage pre-clinical evaluation. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic, multidisciplinary team and take on a role that combines hands-on laboratory work with data-driven approaches to innovation.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Perform small-scale transient mammalian transfections and purify monoclonal antibodies using automated techniques.
  • Troubleshoot purification and quality issues, interpret data, and propose creative solutions to ensure the delivery of high-quality reagents.
  • Lead and support the development, optimisation, and implementation of automated/robotic high-throughput platforms for antibody expression and purification.
  • Apply data analysis and visualisation tools to improve workflows and troubleshoot bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Discovery Sciences, Process Development, Analytical Characterisation) to ensure timely communication of progress, issues, and solutions.
  • Explore opportunities to integrate machine learning-based predictive tools into workflows, enhancing the quality and efficiency of processes.
  • Maintain diligent and accurate experimental records using electronic laboratory notebooks and online registration systems.
  • Ensure lab equipment is maintained to high standards, including assisting with cleaning, calibration, and upgrades.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in cell culture, antibody expression, purification, or characterisation.
  • Strong understanding of protein biochemistry, purification techniques, and analytical methods
  • Industrial experience in a relevant field is highly advantageous.
  • Expertise in mammalian cell culture (CHO, HEK), including aseptic techniques and maintaining cell stocks.
  • Proficiency with antibody/protein purification systems such as AKTA and Unicorn software.
  • Practical knowledge of protein characterisation techniques: SEC, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, and UV-Vis spectroscopy.
