Are you passionate about ensuring children's voices are heard and respected in decisions about their future? If so, we're seeking an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to play a vital role in our mission to champion the rights and welfare of Children Looked After (CLA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for the needs and wishes of Children Looked After (CLA), ensuring care plans prioritize early permanence planning.
  • Skilfully engage and support children's participation in the review and planning process, empowering them to actively contribute to decisions about their lives.
  • Serve as a crucial link between CLA and other agencies, ensuring their voices are central to decision-making processes.
  • Utilize extensive post-qualifying experience and in-depth knowledge of the legal framework (Children Act 1989, Care Planning Regulations, IRO Handbook) to guide decision-making.
  • Effectively challenge existing practices to ensure the best possible outcomes for children, including utilizing effective escalation procedures.
  • Contribute expertise to training forums and departmental meetings, acting as a key resource within the wider team.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Extensive experience in children's social work, preferably with management experience at Assistant Team Manager level or above.
  • Proven ability to navigate legal frameworks and effectively advocate for children's rights.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children, families, and multi-agency teams.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and promoting best practices in social work.
