My client, a leading provider of global supply chain/logistics solutions, is looking to appoint a General Manager Business Development for their Contract Logistics Division.

Reporting directly to the Business Development Director, you will be responsible for driving revenue growth by development and implementing effective business strategies, expanding our client base, and fostering strong relationships with key partners and stakeholders within the Contract Logistics business unit. This is a senior level role that requires exceptional leadership, sales acumen, and a deep understanding of the Contract Logistics industry and the wider Global Logistics industry. Experience within the Retail/Fashion Logistics sector would be advantageous.

DUTIES:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive business development strategies to achieve sales targets and expand market share.
  • Identify and prioritise potential target clients, addressing their needs, and proposing tailored logistics solutions to meet their requirements whilst aligning with internal capacity from a space, resource and technology perspective.
  • Negotiating and finalising contract terms with clients, ensuring that the agreements are mutually beneficial and align with the company’s objectives.
  • Develop and implement pricing strategies that are competitive, profitable (EBITDA), and aligned with the company’s overall business goals.
  • Establish strong relationships with key decision-makers and influencers across all target clients to build trust, strong relationships, and long-term partnerships.
  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities, trends, and potential risks.
  • Stay up to date with current market conditions, industry regulations, emerging technologies, and sector trends to capitalise on business opportunities and drive innovation.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • The successful candidate must have commercial Contract Logistics and Supply Chain Management experience in Business Development roles.
  • Customer orientated and excellent at anticipating customers’ needs and ensuring we can fulfil promises.
  • Ability to communicate, build networks, and influence at all levels of the organization, and with customers.
  • Extensive experience in business development, sales, or marketing roles within the contract logistics and global logistics industry.
  • Proven track record of exceeding sales targets and driving revenue growth.
  • Strong commercial acumen and financial management abilities
  • Positive change agent in the business, committed to constantly evolving service propositions, profitable growth, and leadership.
  • Ability to indirectly lead teams to deliver targets to deadlines
  • Good understanding of warehouse management systems, supply chain visibility applications and solutions and how they can quantify and leverage value, service, or risk management.
  • Ability to define entrepreneurial business solutions to identify new opportunities and generate revenue and add value to our customers.
  • Must be able to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Experience in selling Contract Logistics and Value Added Services, as well as International transportation, final mile Express delivery, returns management and Technology.
  • Solid presentation and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and interact with internal and external stakeholders incl. at very Senior Level
  • The ability to communicate clearly and enthusiastically about services and solutions.
  • Strong relationship building skills and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a team-oriented environment to meet goals and objectives.
  • Sound analytical skill and proven research methodology required to prospect and qualify leads successfully.
  • Strong project management, budget management, organisational, and planning skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously to meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment, are mandatory.
