Position: Designated Social Care Officer (DSCO) – SENDLocation: Slough Borough CouncilContract: Locum/Full-TimeRate: £42 per hourAbout the RolePertemps are recruiting for a locum Designated Social Care Officer (DSCO) who is passionate about providing outstanding care and support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). As the DSCO, you will lead the integration of social care into SEND services, ensuring a collaborative approach across education, health, and social care. You will be accountable for developing and implementing the social care elements of the SEND strategy, influencing organisational design, and ensuring that children with Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Plans receive the best possible support.Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and oversee the social care components of the SEND strategy.
  • Represent Slough Borough Council at regional and national events, providing expert advice on SEND reforms relating to social care.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships across education, health, and social care.
  • Actively engage children, young people, and their families in co-producing solutions and services.
  • Ensure seamless integration of social care services into SEND provision.
  • Contribute to organisational design and assist Children’s Services in meeting the needs of children, including those with EHC Plans.
  • Stay updated on SEND legislation and safeguarding requirements.
  • Maintain the highest standards of care and ensure compliance across services.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
  • Social Work qualified and registered with Social Work England.
  • Proven track record in social work, particularly in supporting children and young people with SEND and their families.
  • Comprehensive understanding of SEND legislation, EHC Plans, and safeguarding requirements.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, with a commitment to co-production.
  • Ability to influence at a strategic level and drive improvements in service delivery.
