"Systems run the business and the people run the systems." - Michael Gerber.  Sheridan Maine is partnering with an established client, based in Smethwick, just outside of Birmingham city centre, to recruit a Financial Systems Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced business and play a key role in enhancing and supporting their financial systems.Role Overview:This position sits under the IT department but focuses primarily on financial systems, so a strong understanding of financial processes and accounting is essential.Responsibilities of the Financial Systems Specialist include:
  • Collaborate with users and project stakeholders to gather and understand both functional and non-functional requirements, technical limitations, issues, and risks.
  • Assist in documenting both current and future business processes at various levels, ensuring clarity and alignment across the organisation.
  • Contribute to project planning, supporting task coordination and activity management within the project team.
  • Provide day-to-day support for incidents, queries, requests, and issues, escalating to third-level support or technology partners when necessary.
  • Research and assess potential solutions to ensure the best outcomes for the business.
  • Propose improvements to existing processes, identifying opportunities for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work alongside users, project teams, and broader stakeholders to design and document solutions that meet business needs.
  • Review and collaborate with technical specialists on customisation and integration of systems to meet specific requirements.
  • Assist in data migration activities, ensuring smooth transitions and accurate reconciliation of data.
  • Undertake System Integration Testing (SIT) and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Operational Acceptance Testing (OAT) to ensure quality deliverables.
The successful Financial Systems Specialist will require:
  • Functional and technical knowledge of Unit4 ERP application and infrastructure.
  • Strong financial/accounting acumen, with the ability to translate business needs into functional systems requirements.
  • Experience as a systems-strong accountant or a finance-savvy IT professional is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with system integration, customisation, and process documentation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive, collaborative team player who can also work independently.
