With continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced and proactive Assistant Financial Controller with a strong manufacturing background to join their finance team at their Birmingham location.

Role Overview:

As the Assistant Financial Controller, you will work closely with the Financial Controller to ensure the smooth running of financial operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated finance professional to step into a senior role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will focus on cost control, financial reporting, budgeting, and driving improvements in financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Cost Control & Analysis: Collaborate with production teams to monitor manufacturing costs, analyse variances, and recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing detailed analysis of variances and performance against targets.
  • Month-End & Year-End: Lead the month-end close process and assist with year-end reporting and audit preparations.
  • Stock Control: Oversee inventory accounting, ensuring accurate stock valuations and providing guidance on effective stock management.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Ensure strong internal controls are in place and financial processes comply with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Financial Modelling: Assist in creating financial models to support business decisions, such as capital investments, cost-saving initiatives, and pricing strategies.
  • Team Supervision: Mentor junior finance staff and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with production, procurement, and operations teams to improve financial performance and efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Fully qualified (CIMA, ACCA, ACA).
  • Proven experience in a finance role within the manufacturing sector (minimum 1-3 years).
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, manufacturing processes, and inventory management.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting software (ERP systems) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and financial controls.
