About the Role

The primary function of this role is to assess and underwrite mortgage applications, ensuring all lending complies with the company’s credit risk policy. Additionally, you will collaborate with the processing team to prepare case files and assist our intermediary partners by discussing potential new applications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Processing and underwriting new loans in line with credit policy, responsible lending policy, and the underwriting manual.
  • Participating in ongoing business improvement activities.
  • Delivering proactive customer service through various communication channels to all stakeholders.
  • Building a thorough understanding of the firm’s products, lending strategy, credit risk policies, and processes.
  • Assessing borrower creditworthiness and underwriting new mortgage applications from initial receipt through to completion.
  • Ensuring high accuracy in data entry and record keeping.
  • Supporting the processing team and underwriting peers to deliver compliant service with prompt and accurate decisions.

What we’re looking for

  • Good knowledge of Buy to Let lending, including Limited Company, HMO, and Multi Units.
  • Strong understanding of the mortgage process.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with a positive attitude.
  • Experience in record/file management.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently
  • Independent Case Management; able to manage your cases successfully to completion
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and workload effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate changing business needs.
  • Accountability, strong work ethic and a 'can do 'attitude

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter.
  • Current or recent underwriting mandate.

Desirable

  • Experience as a specialist Buy To Let Mortgage Underwriter
  • Additional certifications in mortgage underwriting or related fields.
  • Experience with business improvement activities.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of mortgage products and lending strategies.
