Role OverviewAs the QHSE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality, health, safety, and environmental compliance across all company sites. You will be instrumental in maintaining adherence to UK legislation and driving continuous improvement through ISO standards, including ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14000 (Environmental Management), ISO 45000 (Occupational Health and Safety), and ISO 27000 (Information Security).
This is a highly visible role where your leadership will promote a culture of safety, sustainability, and operational excellence. Your expertise in risk assessment, compliance auditing, and incident management will be key to ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesQHSE Compliance: Ensure full compliance with UK health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, and company policies, aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14000, and ISO 45000 standards.
Site Audits: Conduct regular site audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 45000 guidelines for both quality and safety.
Risk Assessments: Lead comprehensive risk assessments in line with ISO 45000 and ISO 14000 standards, developing mitigation strategies to protect employees, subcontractors, and the environment.
Training & Development: Develop and deliver robust training programs based on ISO 45000 and ISO 9001 to enhance employee safety knowledge and improve operational quality.
Incident Management: Investigate accidents and near misses, report findings, and implement corrective actions using ISO 45000 to guide incident response and prevent recurrence.
Safety & Environmental Culture: Foster a proactive safety and environmental culture across the organization in alignment with ISO 45000 and ISO 14000.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate QHSE records and prepare regular reports for senior management, adhering to ISO 9001, ISO 45000, and ISO 14000 documentation requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and clients to prioritize safety, quality, and environmental concerns, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14000, ISO 45000, and ISO 27000.
Essential:
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Proven experience as a QHSE Manager within construction, engineering, or mechanical handling industries.
- In-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and relevant standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14000, ISO 45000, and ISO 27000).
- Strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of risk assessment procedures.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organisation.
- Willingness to travel across the UK as required.
Desirable:
- Membership in professional bodies such as IOSH or IIRSM.
- Experience managing QHSE for large, multi-site projects.
- Knowledge of mechanical handling systems.
