Male SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary Alternative Provision in Solihull

We are excited to be working with a respected primary SEMH school in Solihull, dedicated to providing tailored education for children who need additional emotional and behavioural support. The school offers a nurturing alternative provision where students aged 5-11 receive the care and guidance needed to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

We are currently seeking a committed and resilient Male SEMH Teaching Assistant to work 1-to-1 with a student who has SEMH needs. You will play a key role in supporting their personal development, helping them engage with learning, and providing consistent emotional support throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working 1-to-1 with a student with SEMH needs, helping them engage in learning activities and supporting their emotional wellbeing.
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies to assist the student in developing positive coping mechanisms and improving their behaviour.
  • Collaborating with teachers and support staff to provide personalised learning opportunities that meet the child’s individual needs.
  • Assisting in classroom activities, ensuring the student remains engaged and supported during lessons.
  • Promoting a safe, structured, and positive environment where the student feels secure and motivated to learn.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with the student, their family, and the school staff to create a cohesive support network.

The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will have:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs, ADHD, Autism, or other additional learning or behavioural challenges.
  • A strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A passion for supporting vulnerable young people, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and build resilience.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with children on a 1-to-1 basis.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a supportive team in a specialist setting.
