SEMH Specialist Tutor Opportunity - 1:1 in Solihull

Prospero Teaching is seeking passionate SEMH Specialist Tutors to provide bespoke 1:1 tuition packages for young people with SEND who are unable to access mainstream education.

About the Role

We are looking for inspiring tutors in and around Solihull to support children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of these students have become disengaged from learning, facing challenges such as school anxiety or insufficient support within their educational environment.

As a SEMH Specialist Tutor, your role will involve creating, planning, and delivering tailored lessons designed to bridge educational gaps and enhance attainment levels. Whether you are an experienced tutor, teacher, or have a background in therapeutic work with children, your focus will be on re-engaging students in their learning journey, providing structure to their daily routine, and aiding their educational development to prepare them for reintegration into school.

Position Details:
  • Location: Various locations across Solihull
  • Role: SEMH Specialist Tutor
  • Type of work: Contract
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Duration: Ongoing until the pupil can reintegrate into a mainstream or special school
  • Contract type: Temporary
  • Part-time: Minimum of 10 hours per week per student
  • Minimum rate of pay: £26 per hour (negotiable)
  • Working hours: Flexible, based on the family's convenience
Required Qualifications:
  • QTS or equivalent
  • UK classroom teaching experience
  • Training in PECS or Makaton is preferred but not essential
  • Creativity, patience, and a willingness to think outside the box
  • Experience in managing challenging behavior and working with disengaged pupils
Eligibility Criteria:
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced child barred list DBS certificate, registered with the online update service, or willingness to apply for a new one
  • Two professional references related to child care
