The Transmission team is responsible for the planning & delivery of the transmission network according to agreed planning guidelines and policies on behalf of our shareholders.

What you can expect to be doing:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Transmission Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining transmission systems to ensure efficient and reliable communication networks. This role requires a deep understanding of transmission technologies, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Activities undertaken by the Transmission Engineer include (but not limited to)

  • Perform network assessments to evaluate the current Ethernet setup and identify necessary modifications.
  • BT Etherway Planning and Order/LL Modification
  • Configure network devices (routers, switches, firewalls) for IPVPN connectivity. Ensure compatibility and integration of existing Ethernet network components with the new IPVPN setup.
  • Execute the migration process, including the configuration and testing of IPVPN connections
  • Tools & Systems data integrity resolutions
  • Operational performance resolution (break-fix)
  • Live performance analysis (fault identification)
  • Work closely with the capacity function within MBNL to ensure that Transmission and Transport capacity requirements are identified
  • Identification of any planning tool requirements such that they support the delivery of transmission solutions, consolidation and evolution to future technologies.
  • Work closely with Transmission Design & Operational services function to ensure that such projects are prioritised as appropriate.
  • Liaising with suppliers & service providers and acting as key management and technical point of contact.
  • Significant knowledge of transmission technologies (both leased line and radio) design knowledge and experience including Ethernet, IP technology, SDH, ATM
  • In-depth knowledge of IPVPN technologies and protocols (e.g., MPLS, IPsec).
  • Strong understanding of Ethernet networking, including VLANs, STP, and trunking.
  • Hands on experience of transmission planning and circuit planning tools in creating transmission solutions.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to anticipate potential issues and implement proactive solutions.
  • Optimisation of capacity and performance of transmission networks
  • Experience in a Network Operator or Managed Service Provider environment
  • Demonstrable experience of project delivery on time and to customer satisfaction
  • Strong knowledge of the 2G/3G/4G Mobile Transmission Networks
