Youth Justice Team Manager
The Youth Justice Team supports children, families and those harmed by children's offending across Somerset. Working with children and young people who receive a recognised youth justice outcome and those who are assessed as being at risk of offending. This role will provide expertise and strong management of the Youth Justice Team to ensure the effective understanding and operation of any statutory or regulatory duty contained within the role.
To provide clarity, management, and motivation in delivering the Strategic and Service plan, the County Children and Young people's Plan and other Council priorities.
As part of the Management team advise Youth Justice Partners, Youth Justice Team, and the Council in respect of operational planning and commissioning, policy matters and service delivery issues, engaging with partners in the promotion of swift justice for children.
To drive performance and management oversight of the Youth Justice Team to support implementation of excellent practice, Including providing broader advice on longer-term developments for the Service.
Working across a locality, take responsibility for the work with children and young people involved in, or at risk of involvement in criminality, including work with children subject to criminal exploitation or at risk of self-harm or suicide. Ensure that risks are assessed, analysed, and appropriately shared and managed, and that plans and interventions are tailored and regularly reviewed to help keep children safe, keep others safe and to prevent offending/reoffending.
Provide and support the development of effective team working with the Youth Justice Team and partners, drawing on restorative justice principles, motivation, systemic leadership, and continuous professional development of staff.
As part of the Management Team, support the Local Authority as statutory lead in its duty under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and the requirement to co-operate and work together with other named statutory partners (Police, Health, Probation, Education), to deliver effective Child First Youth Justice provision in Somerset.
To lead and plan the delivery and development of the Youth Justice Team statutory, diversion and preventative services through the provision of effective intervention and management oversight of service provision across a locality area. A solution focussed approach will be required in designing and implementing Local and National Youth Justice objectives.
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 6 in a relevant thematic area (such as Social Work, Youth Justice/Probation, Policing, Teaching, Youth Work, Health Professions, Education, Children and Families work).

- Professional Practice Certificate in Youth Justice Practices, or Probation.
- Extensive experience in working with vulnerable children with complex needs whilst maintaining outcome focus.
- Evidence of a commitment to on-going professional development in their specialist field and to the principles of evidenced based practice.
