Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Overview:

Our client is a very well establish, growing civil engineering consultancy and looking to add to their increasingly busy Croydon team.

In recent years, the company has undergone substantial growth, primarily focusing on the rail design sector. This presents an excellent chance to become part of a steadily expanding organization.

This position would serve as a valuable addition to their geotechnical team, offering the opportunity for someone to assume significant responsibilities and progress alongside the company.

The company have a flexible/hybrid working policy that allows staff to work in the office 2/3 days.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the team.
  • Assist in managing team workloads to ensure the timely and high-quality delivery of projects.
  • Assess and address geotechnical risks that may impact projects, suggesting effective mitigation strategies.
  • Carry out both conceptual and detailed design work.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including Ground Investigation and Geotechnical Design reports.
  • Handle the commercial aspects of projects, balancing technical excellence with profitability.
  • Develop fee proposals and contribute to winning new projects while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Effectively communicate designs through clear and professional drawings and sketches.
  • Show a commitment to continuous learning and expanding knowledge.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Chartered or Incorporated status with ICE (or equivalent), or actively pursuing professional accreditation.
  • Extensive experience in geotechnical design.
  • Proficiency in Eurocodes and relevant industry or group standards.
  • Possession of a valid UK driving license.

Desirable

  • Experience in the railway sector and familiarity with Network Rail policies and practices.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Strong skills in overseeing the commercial lifecycle of projects from start to finish.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within multi-project schedules.
