Adecco are supporting a London Borough Council in a service role as a Project Engineer

Job Title: Coring Engineer

Location: South London

Remuneration: £25.06 - £32.62 per hour

Contract Details: Temporary, 3 months

Must have a UK driving license and use of a vehicle for work use

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Service Manager and Senior Engineer in managing and delivering coring schemes, ensuring service objectives and priorities are met.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments, coordinate meetings with consultants and contractors to develop a works programme based on potential coring areas.
  • Collaborate with utilities on failed cores, establish a programme of work, and obtain necessary permits and traffic management plans.
  • Conduct follow-up inspections of utilities works and maintain accurate financial records of the coring scheme.
  • Prepare cost-benefit analysis reports within budgetary constraints and draught reports and statistical data for assessment by the Head of Highways and the Corporate body.
  • Provide professional, technical, and management advice to the service manager, internal departments, and the public in support of the Council's objectives.
  • Proactively implement initiatives to support diversity and equality of access and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with various external stakeholders such as resident associations, local businesses, emergency services, utility companies, and transport organisations.
  • Liaise with internal departments, including Cabinet and Ward Members, Traffic Management Cabinet Committee, Planning, Environmental Health, and Corporate Property and Regeneration.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standing orders, monitor budgets, and oversee key programme and project risks.
  • Make decisions on the design and prioritisation of coring schemes, report outcomes to committees, and manage workload with little supervision.
  • Manage contractors and provide efficient and professional service to stakeholders both internal and external to the Council.
  • Represent the authority at external meetings and occasionally vary working hours during busy periods.
  • Work across multiple projects and support staff selection processes.
  • Possess a valid driving licence.

Person Specification:

  • 'A' levels in mathematics, geography, or physics, or ONC/OND/HNC/BTEC or degree in Civil Engineering.
  • NRSWA accreditation.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of engineering and IT systems related to the field.
  • Familiarity with engineering contracts and contract law.
  • Understanding of procedures and decision making processes in complex organisations.
  • Ability to investigate, analyse, design, and deliver engineering schemes.
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in dealing with complex engineering issues.
  • Experience in project delivery and partnership working.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer software.
  • Flexible to attend meetings and perform duties outside normal working hours.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in various challenging conditions.
