About the Team:

The private sector housing team are responsible for working with landlords, agents and tenants with improving safety standards and property management in the boroughs' large private rented sector. This includes the responsibility for fire safety in existing buildings.

About the Role:


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Fire Safety Surveyor to join Croydon's Private Sector Housing Team. The primary objective of this role is to improve standards within Croydon's private rented sector, including housing association-owned and privately-owned premises. The successful candidate will ensure fire safety compliance in high-rise and mid-rise residential buildings within the private sector. They will work with various partners, including the Council, London Fire Brigade, Building Safety Regulator, Greater London Authority, and MHCLG, to prioritise enforcement, and take steps to achieve the successful remediation of non-compliant buildings. Working within the Sustainable Communities, Regeneration and Economic Directorate, and reporting to the Private Sector Housing Manager, the successful candidate will lead a small fire safety team and act as an expert resource within the Council's wider Private Sector Housing Division.


We are seeking a dedicated professional to take a lead role in investigating complaints, progressing enforcement actions, undertaking proactive project work, and administering property licensing schemes. The successful candidate will manage complex enforcement activities, including schedules, orders, notices, works in default, civil financial penalties, property licensing prosecutions, rent repayment orders, banning orders, and legal bundles related to non-compliance. Additionally, they will lead in at least one area of private sector housing and/or public health work, primarily focusing on fire safety in tall buildings and a wide range of private sector dwellings, including HMOs.
