Job Title: Health and Safety Advisor
Location: Croydon
Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days WFH)

Our client, a prominent public sector organisation, is seeking an experienced and motivated Health and Safety Advisor to join their team. This role offers a unique opportunity to support a comprehensive health, safety, and fire safety (HS&F) service while fostering a culture of safety across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support senior H&S team members in implementing corporate strategies and initiatives that promote best practices and a proactive safety culture.
  • Establish and manage systems to monitor and audit H&S performance and effectiveness.
  • Take appropriate action to uphold and improve safety standards as required.
  • Conduct audits on H&S policies, practices, and procedures to maintain a positive safety environment.
  • Collaborate with external providers to oversee and audit third-party fire risk assessments for compliance.
  • Work closely with the Facilities Management team to address H&S issues, escalating concerns when necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for senior H&S team members.
  • Contribute to implementing the H&S strategic plan.
  • Support the creation of a comprehensive statutory and mandatory H&S training programme.
  • Track compliance with training requirements and report findings to the H&S Compliance Manager.
  • Provide guidance on H&S legislation and best practices, supporting organisational compliance.
  • Advise departments on developing and implementing H&S action plans.
  • Offer advisory services on risk assessments, accident reporting, contractor management, and more.
  • Attend legal proceedings related to workplace incidents, providing evidence as needed.
  • Conduct H&S audits, identifying areas for improvement and recommending preventative actions.
  • Lead a programme of H&S inspections, training Premises Managers, and preparing inspection reports.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within the public sector or a large organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of H&S legislation, regulations, and best practices.
  • NEBOSH certification or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Proficiency in H&S databases and software.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience as a Health and Safety Advisor or in a related role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of H&S legislation and risk assessment methodologies.
  • NEBOSH certification or equivalent (preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team.
