Our client, a leading organisation in the public sector, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Health & Safety Compliance Consultant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to a fully integrated health, safety, and fire safety (HS&F) service and help create a positive safety culture within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist senior H&S colleagues in implementing corporate strategies, plans, and initiatives to promote best practises and foster a positive H&S culture.

2. Develop and implement systems for monitoring and auditing H&S performance and efficiency.

3. Take appropriate action to ensure safety standards and requirements are met and improved as necessary.

4. Conduct audits of H&S policies, practises, and procedures to achieve a positive safety culture and environment.

5. Collaborate with the incumbent provider to monitor and audit third-party fire risk assessments and ensure compliance.

6. Work with the Facilities Management team to address any concerns or issues related to H&S, escalating them as needed.

7. Support the preparation of reports for senior H&S colleagues.

8. Assist in the implementation of the H&S plan.

9. Contribute to the development of a comprehensive training plan for statutory and mandatory H&S training.

10. Monitor compliance with training requirements and report to the H&S Compliance Manager.

11. Provide advisory services on legislation and current best practises in H&S, offering guidance on their impact on existing practises.

12. Advise and support departments in developing and implementing H&S action plans.

13. Provide guidance on a range of H&S management aspects, including risk assessments, safe systems of work, accident reporting and investigation, contractor usage, workplace inspections, and equipment safety.

14. Attend legal proceedings related to accidents, providing evidence as needed.

15. Conduct H&S performance reviews and audits, identifying areas for improvement and recommending preventive measures.

16. Develop a regime of H&S inspections, train Premises Managers, and prepare reports and recommendations on inspection outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the public sector or a large organisation.
  • Sound knowledge of H&S legislation, regulations, and best practises.
  • NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Proficient in using H&S databases and software.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Compliance Consultant or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and liaise with stakeholders.
  • NEBOSH qualification or equivalent is highly desirable.
