Our client, a leading organization in the aerospace industry, is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join their team at their South Molton Aerospace manufacturing plant.

This role focuses on developing and maintaining cost-efficient manufacturing processes while leading continuous improvement initiatives. You will play a critical role in enhancing productivity, ensuring product quality, and delivering on customer expectations by applying Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain robust, cost-effective manufacturing processes and product structures aligned with Lean manufacturing practices.
  • Ensure root cause and failure analysis is conducted when necessary.
  • Lead cost-reduction initiatives and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Apply Lean manufacturing techniques to eliminate waste and meet customer expectations.
  • Implement methods to reduce process variation and enhance efficiency.
  • Use Six Sigma strategies to help teams understand variations and manage tolerance stacks in assemblies.
  • Understand and apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Gage R&R.
  • Participate in concurrent engineering efforts and design reviews to minimize product development costs and extend product life.
  • Conduct Design for Manufacturing and value engineering initiatives.
  • Support new product development projects, using tools like ProLaunch to commit to project schedules.
  • Coordinate with various teams to oversee the product lifecycle, from inception to shipment.
  • Recommend capital investments, including financial analysis, to support emerging and existing technologies.
  • Train and develop team members on relevant processes and methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Six Sigma certification or similar qualification preferred.

Skills and Experience:

  • Detailed knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques, such as value stream mapping and one-piece flow.
  • Understanding of Six Sigma tools and concepts to minimize process and product variability (e.g., regression analysis, design of experiments).
  • Proficiency in problem-solving methodologies like 8D, root cause analysis, and process failure mode effect analysis (PFMEA).
  • Experience with software applications including CAD, CAM, MS Office, and MiniTab.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as metal cutting, tool design, welding, injection molding, and soldering.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional process improvement teams.
  • Understanding of engineering design and product reliability principles, including fluid dynamics, thermal dynamics, and electronic circuits.
  • Familiarity with industry quality standards like ISO9001 and AS9100.
  • Understanding of ProLaunch and product development tools.
