Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading Sugar Producer to recruit a Control Engineer for its site in Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Electrical and Control Engineer you will be responsible for:
  • Creating control strategies from user requirements and P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) documents.
  • Designing control strategies based on process descriptions.
  • Being involved in the maintenance of the software and hardware components of the factory control system, including Honeywell DCS.
  • Being the point of contact to assist the operations team during issues on site.
  • Understanding the user requirements for different projects (new plant / system plant / modifications / process optimisation)
  • Assisting in the supervision of Electrical and Control design, planning install and commissioning of new systems.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders to ensure the requirements are understood.
  • Always upholding a high level of health and safety, whilst effectively collaborating with fellow team members.
  • Being a member of the control team out of hours on-call rota.



Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:
  • HNC or equivalent qualification in relevant engineering discipline
  • Detailed understanding of industrial control systems, specifically Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
  • Understanding of the various industrial communication protocols i.e. Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, HART etc.
  • Strong IT skills and a good understanding of cyber security protocols
  • IOSH / NEBOSH is highly desirable but not essential.

  • Driven with the desire to achieve.
  • Able to work an on-call rota
