Job Summary

We are looking for a dedicated and customer-focused Street Cleansing Operative to join our team in delivering high-quality street cleansing services throughout the Borough of South Tyneside. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform neighbourhood street cleaning services, including seasonal tasks and collaborative work with partners.

  • Assist in market services where applicable, including setting up and dismantling stalls and conducting general cleaning activities.

  • Safely collect and dispose of hazardous waste such as hypodermic needles, clinical waste, and animal carcasses.

  • Support the removal of abandoned and fly-tipped waste.

  • Conduct Area Quality Monitoring, reporting environmental defects and issues as needed.

  • Maintain all tools, equipment, and materials in safe working order, adhering to relevant guidance and training.

  • Complete necessary documentation and records accurately and on time.

  • Take responsibility for personal and team health and safety, ensuring compliance with all relevant training and regulations.

  • Actively participate in operational and safety training, including toolbox talks.

  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment in accordance with guidance and legislation.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends.

  • Awareness of health and safety practices in a public service environment.
