To supervise, give engineering advice and have overall responsibility for engineering maintenance of managed properties with any combination of directly employed maintenance staff and contractors.

Authorised Person Mechanical and Pressure Systems (APMPS) ensuring high standards of safety at all times, including the supervision, management & guiding of Skilled Persons (SPMPS).

Must be able to participate in the Engineering Managements Emergency On-call rota, training / site knowledge will be required ahead of participation.

To be responsible for the execution of allocated Minor New Works and small capital schemes as directed.

Participate in the annual estates stores stocktaking (check)

Lead and co-ordinate a team of approximately engineering maintenance staff. Co-ordinate and supervise external contract staff consisting of various disciplines related to the departments fixed-term maintenance contracts.

In leading a team of maintenance staff the post holder will have responsibility for ordering materials, services and equipment through revenue and capital budgets.

In terms of leadership, the post holder is responsible for ensuring the team maintain satisfactory time keeping, satisfactory levels of performance and productivity as well as supervising administrative duties such as completing and issuing time sheets / call out sheets etc. in a timely manner. Generally the post requires the post holder to ensure satisfactory standards of conduct, productivity and performance of those operatives under his/her control are maintained.

In the process of supervising staff, the post holder will be responsible for prioritising, processing and co-ordinating computerised work requests both planned preventative inspections / tests and reactive breakdown repair requests, utilising our directly employed maintenance crafts-people and assistants, as well as external contractors.

In terms of supervision, the post holder will carry out, prepare and allocate risk assessments, associated to the works being planned or allocated and they must fulfil requirements relating to the instruction of crafts-people, operatives and apprentices. This may require identification of individuals training requirements and identifying an appropriate means to fulfil any gaps. The Supervisor will support this day to day supervision with an annual appraisal / review of staff under his/her control. The post holder is therefore required to participate in the Appraisal Scheme, (i.e. be appraised) and act as Appraiser to delegated levels within the engineering sections.

In terms of team-working the post holder must be able to participate in the engineering management Emergency On-call rota. Training & site familiarity will be required ahead of participation.

Similarly the post holder may be required to carry out feasibility studies of allocated Minor new work requests, providing cost estimates, obtaining quotations, procuring & managing the works through to completion.

The post holder will have a good understanding of Health and Safety and COSHH Regulations.

In maintaining the safe working practices of the team, and the users of our Estate, the supervisor will carry out incident / accident investigations.
