Are you passionate about supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?

GSL Education’s Newcastle branch is currently recruiting an ASD Teaching Assistant to work in a supportive and inclusive secondary school located in South Shields. We seek a compassionate and patient individual who can provide tailored support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Job Summary: As an ASD Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the SEN team to support students with ASD in both one-to-one and small-group settings. Your main focus will be to help these students overcome barriers to learning, improve their social interactions, and build confidence within the school environment.

Responsibilities of an ASD Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide tailored support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in classroom and social settings.
  • Assist teachers in adapting lesson plans to meet the needs of students with ASD.
  • Support students with communication, social interaction, and behaviour management.
  • Help students develop independent learning skills and manage their emotions.
  • Collaborate with SEN staff and parents to monitor student progress.

Qualifications and Skills for an ASD Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with students with ASD or other learning needs is essential.
  • A compassionate and patient approach to supporting students with additional needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and parents.
  • A relevant teaching assistant qualification or equivalent experience is desirable but not essential.
