GSL Education are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Teaching Assistant to join our secondary school in South Shields. This role is ideal for an experienced TA looking for flexible daily supply work or a long-term contract in a supportive educational environment.

As an ASD Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students diagnosed with Autism, supporting their learning and personal development. Your role will involve assisting the class teacher, implementing tailored strategies, and ensuring that students are engaged and achieving their potential.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support students with ASD in accessing the curriculum and adapting learning materials.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of individual and group activities.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Help manage classroom behaviour effectively to create a positive and focused setting.
  • Monitor and document student progress, communicating with staff and parents as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN coordinators, and other support staff.
  • Always ensure the safety and well-being of students.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience working with children or young people with ASD.
  • A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • Strong understanding of ASD and associated learning strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with special needs.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team and adapt to varied teaching environments.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
