GSL Education Newcastle Branch is currently partnering with a well-resourced childcare institution in South Shields that requires a Residential Support team member. This is an excellent opportunity for those considering a career in child care and are keen to gain valuable experience.

The Role:

As a Residential Support, you will play a crucial role in providing day-to-day care, support and guidance to children in a residential setting. This position involves working closely with children to create a safe, nurturing and structured environment, promoting their well-being and personal development.

Key Responsibilities as a Residential Support in a Childcare setting:

  • Provide high-quality care and support to children, ensuring their physical, emotional and social needs are met.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment, implementing safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Support children in their personal development, helping them to build confidence, life skills and positive relationships.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies, promoting positive behaviour and addressing challenging behaviour appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, incidents and progress, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and compliant with regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, external agencies and families to provide comprehensive support to children.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous experience working with children in a residential or similar setting.
  • Possess a genuine passion for working with vulnerable children and a commitment to their well-being.
  • Be patient, empathetic and understanding approach to care.
  • Contain flexibility and adaptability to cover various subjects.
  • Have a passion for education and supporting students' learning progress.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
  • Have strong communication and classroom management, excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a classroom effectively.
