Do you have strong warehousing experience paired with excellent knowledge of the freight forwarding industry?
I am recruiting for a Warehouse & Logistics Operative for client who is a market leader in air, sea and road freight as well as logistics, supply chain and technology solutions. The Warehouse & Logistics Operative is responsible for ensuring the efficient and compliant handling, screening, and processing of freight for export operations. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to regulatory requirements, and a proactive approach to managing varied freight types, including temperature-controlled cargo, and dangerous goods (DG). This is a night shift position, working Monday – Friday, from 8pm-5am.
Freight/Logistics Duties:
- Record all freight details, such as weights, dimensions, and packaging type, onto a Goods In Note (GIN).
- Determine appropriate handling methods for general freight, temperature-controlled shipments, and DG freight (air, road, sea).
- Verify the security of Known Freight through driver identification and a Consignment Security Declaration (CSD) from a Known Consigner (KC) or a Regulated Agent (RA).
- Prepare documentation such as invoices, packing lists, or Air Waybills (AWB).
- Monitor and action emails from multiple depots to ensure operational efficiency.
- Complete and hand over relevant export paperwork to other departments or archive for record-keeping.
Cold Chain Builds, Security & Warehousing Duties:
- Participate in x-ray screening, ensuring adherence to security protocols:
- Complete 10 hours of supervised screening before taking the National X-ray Competency Test (NXCT).
- Apply alternative screening methods for freight unsuitable for x-ray (Personal Hand Search (PHS), Visual Check (VCK), Explosive Trace Detection (ETD))
- Coordinate with regulated agents or airlines for shipments deemed unscreenable.
- Manage temperature-controlled freight storage in chillers maintained at +2 to +8°C.
- Assemble temperature-controlled PODs according to instructions, including pre-conditioning icepacks and inserting them per configuration.
- Seal, wrap, and label PODs with temperature control and orientation markings.
Key Requirements:
- Multi-modal freight forwarding experience within exports (air, road, and/or sea) and regulatory compliance, including CAA standards.
- Experience in internal security screening and knowledge of x-ray procedures.
- Module 18 certification (or willingness to achieve it).
- Competency in handling general, temperature-controlled, and DG freight with physical ability to lift cargo.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Training requirements: A minimum of 1 month for experienced candidates or up to 5 months for inexperienced candidates,
